Club History Archive 1948 -1965

The West Kent ARS began on the 7th of April 1948 led by Bert Allen MBE G2UJ, seen below operating G2UJ/P in a field day event of the West Kent ARS.

Other founding members were; Arthur Leonard G5KV, Ron Pluck G4AY (ZL3PD), Frank Barnard G4FB, Laurie King G4IB (photo below), Ernie Barker G5OQ along with G3BGU, G6ML and G6OB.

Frank Barnard G4FB’s younger son Roger contacted us, recalling pictures of his father on Field Days, and remembering Frank’s friends Lawrence and Bert from his childhood. Frank was still operating at the age of 99 in 2009, but became a silent key after a fall and stay in hospital. These photos of Frank are from 2003 and 2005.
